BASTION

A 60-unit mixed-use development in an area with a robust history of community-generated change, the project is framed by ideas about collective neighborhood development and progressive, supportive living environments. Using the Generations of Hope Community Model—previously applied to put foster children and older caregivers in mutually beneficial living situations—Bastion adapts the potential of intergenerational communities to fill a gap in public and privately-developed veteran housing programs. Working across scales of operation, Bastion will foster a protected but inclusive, vital and thriving live/work environment that veterans with lifelong rehabilitative needs and their families, retired military, and community members can establish and maintain on their own terms while taking advantage of the networks of support and resources that exist in the city at large.
